A boxing match is characterized by speed and immediacy of movements. The boxing distance does not leave time for much thought, so the preparation made by the boxer, and part of this is automated movements. That is, while on the one hand the boxer must work with inspiration and judgment for the right move at the ideal moment, on the other hand many of these moves must not be thought of at all. He must act mechanically in order to gain valuable fractions of a second that will give him a lead over the rival athlete. Part of the automated movements are also Punch combinations, whether they are offensive or defensive combinations.

The common mistake boxers make is to use individual punches. If the timing of these is correct it is a very good start so that they frame one hit with a second and a third, which will complete the "job" of the first. By combination of blows we mean from two and above. The jab-cross (1-2) is perhaps the simplest boxing combination. The ideal number of hits for a combination is the three hits, because they are enough to cause great damage and open "holes" in the opponent's defense, but soon to enter directly into the defense, without high energy costs, which counts in the development of the match. This does not mean that we do not give less or more hits where the fight requires it.

Between one combination and the next we add movements, so that we are in rythm and have no gaps in our game. For example if I attack with left, right and left hook, making a break of the trunk on the left I can add another combination, for example left uppercut, right uppercut and left hook. Thus, I create a flow of blows, I have "broken" the distance and I have brought myself to a very advantageous short distance to complete my attack. This, of course, we can do with alternations offensive and defensive techniques, side steps etc.

One element that should be present in our combinations is the increasing intensity of the blows that make them up. For example, if we do two hits, 100% of the maximum speed, power and explosion should be attributed to the second, if we do three hits to the third and so on. We have to be very careful in training, where usually the athletes in their effort not to be too aggressive with each other, lower the strength and at the same time equalize all the blows in one intensity. Training should be as simulated as possible. When we need to lower our volume, for example to 80% of maximum performance, then we start our combination proportionally lower by raising to 80% the last hit of the combination.

The combinations of blows, like our every move in the ring, must be done on our boxing rhythm. Along with the increased intensity in the blows, a flow of movements is created that keeps the boxer always in the game. Also, changing the intensity helps a lot in saving energy during the race, since we do not always work to the maximum. A boxer who knows how to change the intensity with which he uses his body, can manage his energy until the last minute of the fight.
