-Boxers must wear gloves and must be weighed.
-The size of the ring is predefined.
- Boxers are classified by weight.
-A fight will have rounds lasting 3 minutes. There is a minute's rest between rounds.
-If a boxer has been knocked down there is a count for 10-seconds which is mandatory. If the beaten boxer does not get up within 10 seconds he loses the fight and the opposing boxer emerges victorious.
These are the basics of boxing, so let's look at some details now.
Boxing Details
There are several ways to win a boxing match such as when a boxer is knocked down or knocked out by an opponent. The boxer may be disqualified for violating the rule (s), or an injury that may force him to withdraw from the match.
If in the opinion of the referee the boxer is beaten, ie the opponent athlete is clearly superior, the referee can stop the fight and declare the superior boxer the winner. This is for the safety of the fighter.
If no knockout down has occurred then the match will be judged on points. The referee and the judges have given points to each boxer for each round of the match and these are added at the end of the match to get the winner out. This is called winning by a decision.
A fighter can also "Win with a Walkover". If a boxer does not show up within 3 minutes of the bell, their opponent is declared the winner.
Scoring
The number of net hits landed in each round determines the score. A scoring punch is a punch that lands on the front or side of an opponent boxer's body or the head with the hinge of a closed glove.
The count is such that the winner of a round will receive 20 points and his opponent, less than 20. If the judge decides that a round was a draw he will mark this round with 20-20. If the winner of a round commits a foul, then their opponent will receive a point. So, if the round was 20-19, then the score will change to 20-20. If the loser of a round commits a foul and the score was 20-19. It will change to 20-18.
